Marie Antoinette was the last queen of France before the French Revolution of the 1790s, who is credited (or blamed) for the most famous quote in history, "let them eat cake." With those words, she became a symbol of a decadent monarchy, fueling the revolution that would cause her to (literally) lose her head. While the story of who made the remark perseveres today, historians agree that it was not Antoinette who made it. In fact, the quote would have even been uncharacteristic of the queen, who despite her lavish lifestyle, was known to be a rather charitable and generous donor.
